THE WEEKEND WAS SOOOOOOO RELAXING that
there was no need to Rest another Day.
Out of experience we have been to a number
of Self catering holiday houses, But I
must be honest your Cottage must be the
cleanest and neatest we have been to.
Thanx so much for the break, we will most
Definitely be back SOON.
Its a pleasure. You have a very beautiful
house.
I proposed to my girlfriend on the
Saturday. She said yes.
I'm sure we will be staying there again
soon.
Regards
Neil
Hi Gregory
I had a lovely time. Being in the interior
business I must say the place is so well
balanced out with old and new that I would
love a house like that for myself. You
really went all out with facilitating for
the necessary stuff that one needs. Just
once thing, there was no mop, I washed the
floors by hand…
I have sent your cottage on to about 30 of
my friends and they will be contacting you
soon.
I think you are going to have a huge
success with this. Its truly a little gem…
You will be hearing from me soon for
another booking.
Thank you again for everything.
Regards,
Debbie Verreyné
Thanks Gregory – we will definitely be
visiting again!
Take care over the festive season!
Kind regards,
Sam
Hi Gregory
What a beautiful cottage you have! We had
an awesome time and will be back.
Thomas is a great guy. It was nice to sit
and chat with him for a while as we have a
few guys from Malawi who work for us. I
did a load of your towels in the washing
machine as it was easier then hand
washing. I did explain to Thomas that the
door had obviously been forceably opened
before and hence was not sealing. All you
have to do is give it a little (very
light) tap at the top and the door re
seals itself. I did two more loads of the
linen for him and it worked perfectly.
We had the privilege of meeting a local
called Theart (pronounced Tea Art).
Terence and our son Kireon went down to
Bokkom Laan to fish and along came this
local, as drunk as they come, and
progressed to show them how to fish with a
net. Naturally my son was most impressed.
They were invited to “kom kuier” – come
visit. My husband declined the offer as he
could see he would never leave until he
had a few brandy and cokes under his belt.
The next morning when I was hanging out
your towels a vision appears in front of
me speaking Afrikaans – now my Afrikaans
is not wonderful! He stated that he had
found me and progressed to shake my hand
and kiss me and hug me! I eventually put
it together and realised that he was
looking for the wife of the Englishman who
looked liked a farmer (i.e. my husband).
It was none other then the local
fisherman. Anyway he kuiered on your stoep
and told us that your cottage was
originally owned by an Englishman called
Ernest Greenway who incidentally loved to
drink with Theart. Ernest died of a heart
attack in the cottage and was found by the
locals sitting in his chair. Theart also
said that you had a good head as the
cottage looked much better then when
Ernest owned it – I think that is the best
compliment you will get from a local!!
He also told us of the big old lady with
white hair who likes to frequent the pubs.
She drinks whisky and challenges any
outsiders to drink her under the table.
The result ….. she walks out the pub after
a bottle of whisky leaving you unable to
stand, nursing a huge headache and lastly
THE BILL!!! So beware if you pop into a
local pub!!!
Bokkom Laan was great. We met the guy who
owns the shop with all the artefact. He
insisted on giving us rolled mops to taste
and then my daughter had to sit on a crate
with a big hat on so he could take a photo
of her for his shop (my daughter is 16 and
her immediate impression of the locals was
a bunch of old guys who love to drink!!!)
What a character he just never stopped
talking.
The butcher you recommended was great. The
boerewors was fantastic. We also took some
of his sausage for hot dogs. At first I
did not want them as they were red and
those ones in Cape Town taste disgusting.
I think he was offended when I told him
this but he assured me they were 100%
meat. We took some and tried one in his
shop. It was the greatest sausage I have
ever had. Thank you for the
recommendation.
We did go to Sunset Restaurant and the
meal was outstanding. I had the venison
and the children and Terence had the ribs
– once again thanks for the
recommendation.
We were a bit disappointed with The
Fishuis. The fish was not nice. I think
perhaps we have been spoilt as my brother
is a 50% partner in the Ocean Basket in
Claremont and Hout Bay and we often eat
fish there. The locals told us that the
best place for fish is Sunset Restaurant.
The beaches were great, the hammock a nice
touch and the clean cottage with wonderful
crispy linen just added to a nice get away
– something we really needed as a family.
The cottage is tastefully decorated – it
was an absolute joy being there and we
thank you for sharing your cottage with
us.
You will hear from us again and in the
meanwhile may you and your family have a
fantastic 2009.
Kind regards
Terence, Sonia, Nikita & Kireon
